The University of California Irvine School of Law 鈥渄elivers an extremely strong educational experience and creates very strong job prospects for its students.鈥� By combining both 鈥済reat professors and lots of hands-on experience,鈥� students feel that UCI prepares them well for a career in the legal field. UCI offers clinics and externships, as well as a pro bono program that many students say is the school鈥檚 greatest strength. As one student explains, 鈥淚 greatly appreciate the ability to dig into substantive work through pro bono opportunities starting 1L fall semester.鈥�

Professors 鈥渁re overall amazing and very knowledgeable in their field鈥� and 鈥渇acilitate an open and detailed learning environment.鈥� Students say the high quality of the faculty makes classes interesting and ensures that 鈥渟tudents are eager to learn.鈥� The school particularly excels in the opportunities outside the classroom. As one student describes it, 鈥淯CI prioritizes learning-by-doing,鈥� and reports being impressed by fellow classmates鈥� 鈥減rofessionalism and writing skills鈥� during externships and summer positions. Students appreciate the faculty as well as the staff in the career office, with one student saying they 鈥渁re the most amazing, helpful and accessible people鈥� and adding, 鈥淸I] never imagined a law school could be so supportive and welcoming.鈥� Some students report that they would like to see the school do more to retain professors, as they are concerned about faculty turnover. As one student describes it, 鈥淲hile we have many amazing permanent professors, it feels a bit difficult to build relationships鈥� with other professors without knowing if they will stay at the school. Students point out this may be because the school is relatively new and emphasize that 鈥渇or being such a new law school, the quality of faculty and focus on experiential learning at UCI Law is unmatched.鈥�

"The environment at UCI is 鈥渧ery supportive and encouraging,鈥� and 鈥渢he student body is diverse and very welcoming.鈥� It鈥檚 a 鈥渃lose-knit community鈥� and people 鈥渉elp each other鈥�. Students say it鈥檚 a 鈥渧ery progressive school鈥� with peers who 鈥渁re highly inclusive of all backgrounds and identities.鈥� The 鈥渁ffordable on-campus housing allows many students to easily spend time together and walk to their classes.鈥� Students who live off-campus also find the social environment very welcoming and there is a strong sense of community between the students.鈥� As one person notes, 鈥淚'm an older married student so I don't socialize as much with too many students. That said, I've made some lifelong friends here.鈥� The facilities here are not the star of the show. As one student describes, 鈥淚t is clear that since its founding, UCI has prioritized substance over style,鈥� and that while the building itself is not very impressive, it hosts 鈥渁n amazing program.鈥� While the program is intensive the atmosphere remains collegial. 鈥淓very student is competitive, but not against each other,鈥� explains one student. 鈥淚t feels as if we are all working towards the same goal and can help each other along the way.鈥�"
