The many students at The University of Tulsa, a small private research university, find it to be the total package. After all, it combines 鈥渢he friendly environment of a smaller university and the academic, employment, extracurricular, and service opportunities of a larger university.鈥� It also does a tremendous job of fostering an atmosphere that鈥檚 鈥渃onducive to collaboration and growth.鈥� In general, students describe the academics as 鈥渃hallenging.鈥� And a number of undergrads emphasize TU鈥檚 鈥渟trong engineering school,鈥� which thoroughly prepares students for 鈥渨ork[ing] in the industry, especially [within the] energy [sector].鈥� All undergraduates, no matter their major, benefit from 鈥渟mall class sizes.鈥� In turn, this affords students the opportunity to build 鈥渃lose relationships...with [the] faculty,鈥� full of professors who 鈥渁re great resources for [both] internships and real-world advice.鈥� Aside from being great contacts, Tulsa professors are 鈥渧ery knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects.鈥� They also 鈥渕ake their students a priority鈥� and they鈥檙e 鈥渧ery accessible outside of class.鈥� As one student expounds, 鈥淢any of my professors frequently invite students to their office hours and remind us of their availability.... [It鈥檚 clear they] care about my academic experience, career readiness, and about me as a person.鈥�

The student body at The University of Tulsa is comprised of 鈥渇riendly鈥� and 鈥渋nclusive鈥� individuals. Of course, it probably helps that the school is home to 鈥渁 diverse group of students from various economic, academic, religious, political, and ethnic backgrounds.鈥� Indeed, 鈥淒ivision I athletes, international students, military veterans, sorority sisters, petroleum engineering majors, and piano performance majors represent a few of the many groups woven together on TU鈥檚 campus.鈥� Undergrads are 鈥渃ommitted to doing well in school.鈥� As one student explains, 鈥淲e are all here to do well, but we are here to do well together.鈥� Undergrads also describe their classmates as 鈥渟mart,鈥� 鈥渆ngaging,鈥� and 鈥渆xtremely focused on their studies.鈥� And most 鈥渁re incredibly involved at TU, whether it be in Greek life, athletics, music, [or] research.鈥� Additionally, a lot of 鈥淭U students look for opportunities to challenge themselves and impact their community.鈥� One thrilled undergrad sums up the campus experience: 鈥淭U honestly feels like a small-town community. Everyone is so friendly and kind, and it鈥檚 like having one giant family.鈥�

While University of Tulsa undergrads say that 鈥渁 good portion of [their] time is...spent studying,鈥� there鈥檚 still plenty of fun to be had outside the confines of the library and/or classroom. For example, 鈥渢here are a ton of active student organizations鈥� and you can always find 鈥渁n event to attend or free food to eat.鈥� Popular options include 鈥渉omecoming... dog petting days, bowling, [and] carnivals.鈥� One excited student adds, 鈥淭U is good about providing events bi-weekly, like s鈥檓ores at the Student Union, an outdoor movie, or a play.鈥� If the Greek scene interests you, you鈥檒l be happy to learn that 鈥渢he fraternities on campus...usually [host] events Thursday through Saturday.鈥� A number of undergrads also love to relax on the 鈥渕any [beautiful] lawns鈥� on the TU campus. And you鈥檙e sure to find a handful of students playing any number of games, from 鈥渂aseball [and] football [to] Capture the Flag.鈥� If you prefer your athletics to be a little more structured, there鈥檚 also a 鈥渧ery popular...intramural sports [program].鈥� As for hometown Tulsa, 鈥渢here鈥檚 a great food, music, and art culture in downtown Tulsa so you can always find something to do.鈥� And we鈥檙e told that 鈥渢he restaurants here are awesome, small and large concert venues attract all types of artists, and there all festivals of all types throughout the year.鈥�

TU students can find all the resources they need for interview preparation, academic planning, and internship seeking at the CaneCareers website. The department also hosts multiple industry-specific job fairs and internship workshops in both the fall and spring semesters. There are a 鈥渧ast amount of research opportunities鈥� to stock r茅sum茅s, and career prep programs take place (often with free lunches) almost daily throughout the week.
