The mountains of Santa Fe provide a fertile setting for intellectual exploration at St. John鈥檚 College, a liberal arts institution defined by a distinctive curriculum centered on the reading and discussion of the Great Books in literature, history, religion, and more. Johnnies鈥攁s students are known鈥攕ay the 鈥渋ntegration between the student body and the curriculum is so beautiful,鈥 giving them 鈥渢he space to think and to grow through the texts that are read.鈥 Every student participates in seminar twice a week, gathering on Monday and Thursday evenings to discuss one of the texts, while classes more broadly promote 鈥減ersonal growth鈥 by 鈥渢eaching us how to have good conversations with each other.鈥 This ethos extends to the faculty鈥攃alled tutors鈥攚ho must 鈥渢each everything from Ancient Greek for translation to Einstein鈥檚 theory of relativity, regardless of their specialty,鈥 making them 鈥渋ncredibly committed to learning and unusually curious, open, and full of intellectual humility.鈥 Within this shared academic structure, tutors 鈥渉ave great freedom to ask innovative questions, pursue surprising ways of thinking, and take the class on productive tangents.鈥 Students emphasize that this approach not only makes tutors 鈥渁 great joy to be around,鈥 but also fosters strong 鈥減otential for intensive learning,鈥 along with a 鈥淸high] degree of academic intimacy.鈥 In short, it鈥檚 a great fit for a 鈥渓ike-minded group of ambitious individuals that have learning and insight as a top priority.鈥
