To attend Calvin University is to immerse oneself in 鈥渁 Christian learning atmosphere where faith is woven into all areas of study.鈥� Calvin is a 鈥渇antastic academic institution that tries to foster the development of the heart and mind.鈥� The university helps students build their 鈥渞elationship with God while also challenging them in a rigorous academic environment to enable them to be agents of change and renewal in the world.鈥� Classes at Calvin are demanding, with one student sharing, 鈥淚 have been challenged academically, intellectually, and spiritually in every class I鈥檝e had, and that鈥檚 made me a better person and has prepared me for graduate school and beyond.鈥� Outside the classroom, students participate in 鈥渟tudy groups and Bible studies to help each other grow toward academic and spiritual goals.鈥� Many students report that the professors 鈥渁re arguably Calvin鈥檚 strongest asset.鈥� They 鈥渁re interested not only in who you are as a student but also who you are as a person鈥� and 鈥渨ant to see [you] succeed.鈥� These teachers achieve a well-received mix of being 鈥渄evoted to [their] subjects鈥� and serving as 鈥済reat role models for how to be Christian professionals鈥� who 鈥減ushed me to grow鈥� and, in at least one specific case, 鈥渋nspired me even more in my pursuit of an environmental science major.鈥� Reflecting on their experience, another student says, 鈥淐alvin is all about Christ, community, and challenging yourself.鈥�

鈥淧eople at Calvin are generally quite friendly and approachable鈥� in addition to being 鈥渉ardworking and quite smart.鈥� The student body is 鈥渟mall enough that Calvin begins to feel like home, but large enough that you don鈥檛 know everyone.鈥� While most students 鈥渁re Christians and come from somewhere in the Midwest,鈥� the school is 鈥渋ntentionally inclusive of all different views and perspectives鈥� and 鈥渄oesn鈥檛 force religion upon anyone.鈥� One student says, 鈥淚 feel I can appropriately express my opinions and views without the condemnation of others.鈥� Calvin 鈥渋s very community-oriented,鈥� and students can easily 鈥渇ind someone to connect with, whether through classes, residence halls, or clubs.鈥� Students are 鈥渧ery caring, generous, and respectful,鈥� and many choose to come here out of a desire to 鈥渆xplore and live out their Christian faith in their studies and future careers.鈥�

Dorm life, a requirement for at least two years at Calvin, 鈥渋s vibrant鈥� and, thanks to an active Student Activities Organization, filled with 鈥渕any dorm activities each week as well as school-wide events each weekend.鈥� Among the most popular features are 鈥渃oncerts from some popular performers and some who are up-and-coming鈥� and frequent 鈥渟howings of new movies for discounted prices.鈥� The school also hosts carnivals, dances, intramurals, concerts, sporting events, comedy skits, and 鈥渇un things at the dining halls.鈥� For those seeking to use their artistic or athletic talents, there鈥檚 鈥渁 wide variety of student ensembles for singing and for instrumental groups,鈥� and 鈥渋ntramurals are very popular when people have free time.鈥� While some students 鈥渕ay be frustrated with the dry campus policy,鈥� it is noted that 鈥渢he number of students who want to party is very small鈥� and they tend to head off-campus. For those looking to explore beyond campus (and have cars), downtown Grand Rapids 鈥渉as a lot to offer,鈥� including 鈥渁 ton of unique, local coffee shops鈥� that students love to visit. The city 鈥渋s close enough to Chicago that we sometimes spend the day there,鈥� and many 鈥渂ackpack, hike, and go to Lake Michigan.鈥� Whether it鈥檚 Bible study, gym workouts, study sessions, or extracurriculars, students suggest that 鈥渁 lot of life on campus at Calvin University is focused on community and interacting with fellow students.鈥�
